For over 130 years, bartenders at the American Bar have created spectacular concoctions inspired by the historic and cultural events of the time. The new menu, The American Bar Journal, pays homage to this unique process of bartending and stands as a celebration of the past, present and future of mixology.
Building on the menu's historic influence, we looked to the 1930s 'Savoy Cocktail Book' by Harry Craddock for layout and typesetting inspiration, integrating design idiosyncrasies featured in the original book. The 34 page A5 menu is bound in a recycled leather cover with silver foil detailing using brass screw post binding.
We collaborated with the brilliant Robyn Collinson, who developed a number of decorative illustrations inspired by the cocktail serves featured throughout the menu.
