Kew Organic Gin

Client: Kew Gardens / The London Distillery

Category: Packaging / Drinks Label Design

Our work for Kew Organic Gin started in one of the most important botanical reference sources in the world, the library and archives at Kew. Containing several million items, including books, botanical illustrations and manuscripts we decided to let the illustrated books become the heroes of this project driving and influencing the design of the labels and packaging we were commissioned to produce.

From an environmental perspective there was a considerable attention to detail in ensuring paper stocks were FSC certified and that all of the inks we used were vegetable-based. The bottle itself includes two beautiful kiln-fired illustrations of the key botanicals of juniper and angelica. The labels were hand typeset and letterpress printed with the label reverses adorned with the design of a marbled end paper sourced from an ancient book within the Kew archive.
